Ah well, the time has come for me to show myself for what I truly am:

A sturdy slab of pine or birchwood!

Huge and wide ranging scifi & fantasy fan though I am - both written and filmed - I just can't 'get' LOTR.

I suppose it's kind of like my total inability to wear the colour black: I think it works for other people - which I think is marvellous - but just not me.

Have to agree with Cromlech. The films are perfectly done, look the part and are fantastically acted. But, having sat through both the original and the extended versions, they just don't get me involved. Don't know why, they just don't. Strange as Mrs H and I usually like the same sort of film and she loves LOTR.

So, as Cromlech is a sturdy slab of pine or birchwood, I'm one of those annoying pieces of decking from B&Q that just will not nail down properly due to a very difficult to distinguish kink. nutjob

I thought "The Hobbit" was a better story than LOTR. Don't know if there are any plans to film it? LOTR is a very simple story made extremely complicated and long winded. If not for the special effects the film would be incredibly dull. Would you sit through six hours of it without SFX?

Nope I can't get into LOTR either but then it may have something to do with us "doing" The Hobbit in first year senior school ....... OH really likes the films though but I just can't get into them......Sorry.

I loved the first film....even played the PC game but the other films whilst very well done just didn't grab me in the same way.
Fav character Gandalf.

Never read the books or the films - for me LOTR would be the next step up on the ladder of boredom from Harry Potter!!!

Actually: yes!

Everyone's favourite Mexican film director (...unless you're a big fan of Jodorowsky...) Guillermo Del Toro (Mimic, HellBoys 1 & 2, Cronos, Pan's Labyrinth, etc) is currently in New Zealand prepping 3 'Hobbit'-based films (I believe) with Peter Jackson.

Just FYI.

My wife comes from 'Hobbiton'. That's why she's so short, but she doesn't have the hairy feet though.

Why 3 films??? Don't get why "The Hobbit" needs 3 films?? I hope they are not going to ruin that too? The original story isn't that long. Oh well. I'm sure it'll win an oscar!
