Hello all....after being a very regular poster in the EV and Metamatic forums, i went into a long seclusion much like Mr. Foxx.....but i have now emerged once more. I was reflecting today at how the varied style and approach of John Foxx over the years has greatly influenced my work as a Professional Photographer. Both from a artistic standpoint, and also by observing how John has never let himself be defined by others or any one thing or style. I am curious how others view these ideas......... Hello to Rob, Cerise, Flip Martian and all of my old EV pals......

Dave Conn! Bloody hell! laugh Hello matey. Weird, I was just wondering what had happened to you only recently.

Well having got back into photography last year, I can safely say that... JF hasn't influenced my photography much at all. Although I do take pics of statues sometimes, I don't merge them with pics of leaves or trees or churches... wink

Nice to see you again, Dave smile

I'm a graphic designer, artist and semi-photographer.

Music is a key influence for me. Not only because of the images it inspires in my head, but also the artistry that goes into it, from the music itself to the album artwork.

I have to confess I had a bash at my own Cathedral Oceans style artwork, after seeing John's book. Providing no-one's going to sue me(!), you can see these over at http://www.thelightdream.net (click on 'faces')

So John's music joins that of Peter Gabriel, Bowie, Jarre, etc that I love and get inspiration from. In my day job I work as a manager and graphic designer - the music I listen to on the way to work can have a big effect on my mood and inspiration for the day. John's certainly does - though, I think it works better in autumn/winter!!

Hi Alex
I never thought about seasons with John music too much but for me there as to be peace and quiet for Cathredral Oceans. Music on the whole does reflect my mood.

I've just visited your site, WOW I really enjoyed looking at your images and they are very impressive. The face ones do remind me of Johns work. smile
Regards
Peter

That's a really rather splendid set of images, Alex! I particularly liked the Simple Minds-inspired ones, very tidy!

Thanks guys :-)

The SImple Minds images were originally my own project for designing alternate versions of their album covers - I did the lot, but those I used on my site were probably the best.

The band included them on their official site in the timeline for a while, which was nice, but now it's been totally re-designed, so they're not there any more! Oh well, I got my 15 minutes!!

Alex, I particularly like the ones with the leaves. For me, Cathedral Oceans is all about Summer, the expectation of it, the end of it, late Spring or early Autumn the furthest limit.

As i may have said before; John's music gives me that very beautiful kind of melancholy. Like a snowy but bright day or something like that (sorry i am not too flowery myself. lol).

Oh man...from the first time I heard John sing My Sex with Ultravox my head has been filled with his somber, spiritual images. The artwork he put together for his musical output was icing on the cake. A true renassaince man.
I still listen to his work for inspiration for my own art.
