Among the things on series link at the moment :

Life on Mars USA - with Harvey Keitel in the Gene Hunt role. Not as good as the UK original , though maybe that is because I am missing some of the cultural references.
FlashForward
Fringe
QI
The Thick of It
History Of Scotland
Have I got news for You
Top Gear

Last year the beeb showed a brilliant Supernatural drama with Martin Shaw as a priest...I think it was called "Apparitions", it was really good, wonder if that will come back confused And remember Sea of Souls with Bill Paterson, they seemed to drop that from the schedule too frown

oooh yeah that was really good too. Liked George Gently and Foyle's War - and they dropped those and give us more "strictly watch us make cheap telly"- not a fair exchange IMO.... mad

I broadly like the same as most others here:- the "quirky and/or quality" programmes and films. The other day I saw a classic ghost story starring Michael Hordern in "Whistle & I'll Come" (no puerile remarks please, Snashy, lol wink ). Which was after a whole documentary on BBC4 about ghost related programmes from their vaults. :p

Well, much like our friend Llais I do find that one more palatable than the other reality shows; loved to see Jordan having to eat worms or whatever it was. Must have reminded her of her marriage. wink

Me watch rubbish...as if lol! wink Don't like reality tv but admit I usually find 'I'm a Celebrity' quite entertaining depend on who is in it. This series I've been so busy I've missed most of it...not sorry to have missed Jordan and don't know who else was in it. I've actually got it on tonight and I recognize no-one!

Found some Wiki background, he's British !:-

Friels was born in Kilwinning, North Ayrshire, Scotland.[1] His mother was a mill worker and his father a carpenter.[2] He lived in Kilbirnie until 1963, when his family moved to Australia, arriving in Darwin, Northern Territory before settling in the Melbourne suburb of Broadmeadows. He worked as a bricklayer's labourer before studying at the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA), alongside actors such as Mel Gibson, and his own future wife Judy Davis. Friels graduated from NIDA in 1976.

[edit] Acting career
Friels career began with work mostly in theatre and television. In 1980 Friels was a presenter on the long-running children's series Play School. His first film role was in the unreleased Prisoners (1981), starring with Tatum O'Neal. The film was allegedly so bad that Tatum's father Ryan O'Neal purchased the rights to the film to prevent it from ever screening. His first actual appearance in film was in Monkey Grip (1982), an adaptation of a novel by Helen Garner, where he starred alongside Noni Hazlehurst.

In 1986, he played the title role in Malcolm, about a shy mechanical genius, for which he was awarded the 1986 AFI Award for best actor. Friels was also nominated for the Best Actor award the following year, for his role in Ground Zero, but didn't win: the film receiving mixed reviews, with one describing him as "a proficient enough actor, but...miscast".[3] Friels later won another AFI Award, for best actor in a television drama, in 1995 for his starring role in the 1994 Halifax f.p. telemovie "Hard Corps".

Friels has played a wide range of other roles. He was a megalomaniacal corporate executive in the 1990 feature film Darkman.

From 1996 to 1999 he played Frank Holloway on the television series Water Rats,[4] a role which won him the Logie Award for Most Outstanding Actor at the 1997 awards. His acceptance speech caused controversy when he said "I'm very flattered for this and it's all rather silly, isn't it? So, thank you very much."

From 2003, Friels has appeared as the main character in the BlackJack series of telemovies.
