Friendly Fire sounds fantastic... can't download it though!

I don't see the promo sleeve that Steve mentions either...

IMO it seems like John has been listening to Goldfrapp when he composed "Friendly Fire" wink

The song is OK enough I guess, but I get a bit of the same feeling listening to it as when I put on "Ray 1/ Ray 2". Not really what I was hoping for...

Doesn't have the grip on melody that Goldfrapp has though despite going for the same sound. Prefer Alison and co. any day over this.

Like From Trash though...

Oh, and does A Peripheral Character sample Slow Motion?

Can't hear SM in there (anyone?).

Underpass is interesting although spoiled when I realised the lead melody is a straight sample off the original which is why there's "dead air" at the end of each riff. The original can't be bettered though in my eyes but loved the intro and the ending.

Quite liked Friendly Fire - I think I need to check out Goldfrapp

I love "Friendly Fire" and said after hearing it at Brighton that it is the best of his new material live.
Because its a bit different I think. Tracks like Freeze Frame, From Trash and Impossible really don't get me very excited I'm afraid.
I'd agree that there is a dash of Goldfrapp in there, but only because it draws on their glam rock influences I reckon.
Now there's a band that rather sold out and lost the plot a bit.
Felt Mountain was their 'peak' without doubt... wink
To me, 'FF' sounds more like "Rock 'n' Roll" and some Bolan things.

I am excited though about the idea of seeing TCM in Brighton.
Bring it on - John with visual accompaniment will be a first for me. And playing ON HIS OWN.
How cool is that? No disrespect to Mr Gordon of course, but you know what I mean.

This is where I want John to go. As if it's up to me.
While I don't dislike the new 'metalbeat' material I'm beginning to get frustrated with Underpass (again) and, as we've all said, there is only so much recycling you can do before you feel the man is putting out too much material.
Did I really say that??

TCM and Cathedral Oceans is where its at - and if that means visual accompaniments then HURRAH for that. wink

My sentiments entirely. I suspect that a little more work on the sample or perhaps playing it afresh might have been a better idea....

Actually, I thought Friendly Fire sounded very Client -ish.

Isn't that odd, if you think about it? The inspirer inspired by the inspired, perhaps?

I wonder what JF and Louis look like in patent leather 1930 pilot uniforms?

I loved the sound of Impossible and Friendly Fire live. I'm still excited now having heard the finished version of FF.

It reminded me of Goldfrapp when I heard it live, but that's only because o the combination of analogue synths and the glam rock beat. The big difference between John and Goldfrapp is that you can tell what John is singing!!

Golfrapp's first two albums were excellent, expecially Black Cherry. Their last one Supernature, disappointed me a bit, but it's worth checking out.

There are a number of John's album sleeves at the bottom of the text on the main page. These cycle through so I suspect that the promo sleeve is amongst these - haven't had time to check yet. smile

Edit- can confirm it is there!

From trash has now disappeared from Myspace, to be replaced by the album's ballad - "Never Let Me Go"

At this rate, we'll have heard the whole album in a week or so!!

Beautiful track. Different again, so OK by me.

Ah, that would spoil the surprise a bit! I hope they leave it there with just 2 previews, personally.

...but it's always nice to have previews!

I like the music and the ballad style song - but I'm not so keen on that vocal effect.

I've said it before, but I'd rather hear a clean, untreated vocal from John, or at most, double tracked.

My Sex (From Live in A Room...) is also up at the site now, I got the "virgin" listen laugh Great end to this version smile

"Never let me go" sounds a bit anemic to my ears, very sparse.

From Trash - as far as I can tell, the version on myspace is the same as that on The Hidden Man, both lasting approx 4'30".

So maybe its not an extended version after all??? confused

Not as moving as My Sex but still a great track. I find that thereīs still that Cathedral feel which is very Foxx and Ultravox of course.

Thatīs now half the album and such a brilliant album itīs going to be. November 6 is a bit too late. How about October ....and Cathedral Oceans III DVD for Xmas?. laugh

Maybe because the cover isn't finalised yet? Release date is too months away afterall....Ditto for the final track listing. (Like everyone else I don't want to think i've heard half the CD already!)

Just listening to the new version of My Sex. Because his voice sounds so much older now, it almost sounds like a refrain for times long ago - an older man looking back.

I'm sure it isn't - just that his mature voice makes it sound that way to me. bemused

Or perhaps for the same reason the (alleged) American Tour in 2007 is described as being 'solo'??? eek
