I've read or listened to other interviews with Billy and that hurt about Band Aid comes through each time so strongly. At first I thought I couldn't possibly draw any conclusions because not enough was known, but now I'm getting to thinking that I can see his point and that maybe the episode was badly handled at the time, that it could leave someone feeling so deeply cut by it. On a more positive note, the Dave Gilmour comment verges on the exciting. Billy's very different to Rick Wright, whose sound complements Gilmours so well, but I could still see it yielding succulent and juicy fruit! If it happened, how great that two of my favourite bands from my youth should have a liaison: from "Pink Thing" to Pink Floyd! Go for it, our Billy!

The thing I don't understand about the Band Aid issue is if it really pissed Billy off that much how did he and Midge manage to co-exist for the remaining 3 or so years that Ultravox existed in the studio and on the road ?
If it wasn't that much of an issue then and that they managed to maintain a working relationship why is it such a issue now 21 years on ?

I've juts found the second interview - just as good. Billy commenting that he'd like to get out playing again was good to hear (or read) I'd encourage him with that.

Do you keep in touch with your former band mates?

Out of all the Guys I can say, without any doubt, that it has been me who tried to cut through the crap and keep former band mates in touch. Unfortunately that has not been reciprocated. All X members of Ultravox keep their cards well close to their chests.

How does that explain Chris Cross' presence, then?

Midge and Chris always got on, didn't they? They collaborated on musical projects together outside of Ultravox, directed videos, etc. I guess he preferred him to Billy and Warren. Obviously Chris was a favourite. This might also explain why Chris could come up front with Midge while playing his bass at Live Aid, while Billy and Warren were...quite far back. (Not that they technically could, but...has anyone else noticed this?)

Yes, but I think this was more to do with the infamous revolving stage than anything-else. Obviously guitarists and bass players have slightly more latitude in freedom of movement, essentially free to go anywhere until the power lead pops out and makes a big bang through the speakers...

Maybe one could rig out one of those mobility aid buggies with a full drum kit to give drummers more flexibility in such situations? I'm sure Keith Moon would have been up for such a ground (not to mention ankle and possibly resolve)-breaking device.

I always understood that Chris and Midge shared common interests in photography and the visual presentation of things, as well as writing together (e.g. The Bloodied Sword, Max Headroom), so I guess there was more of a link.

Does anyone have the links to various Billy interviews? I tried one on this page but it does not seem to be working! Any would be gratefully received!!
