Christopher made my day by posting something so cute. It instantly made me smile.

16th July is always a stupid day (it's Ari's death day), and this year I was stuck (after getting up at 5 to catch the plane) in Belgium for a couple of days , plus that day (I think), the tragic Madonna accident in Marseille happened. Well, when I saw that Dr. Allen had posted, it was so refreshing! It sent an instant (not a distant) smile to my face.

Actually... it made me laugh with delight. So much, that I had to explain/show my colleague what's going on. :-D My department were incredibly supportive in April for the tour, and now they actually know Ultravox!!!

We still don't know whether in Britain the profession of psychotherapist requires a Dr.title or not, btw!!! Does it???

I don't know if it does, but I think it does at least have to have the relevant letters after it.

Hi y'all......look in to my eyes.......

Well the subject of 'Dr' or not is very intriguing.
Firstly I'm not a Dr. and I am not the Dr. Allen that is often spoken of here.
At the present time you do not technically have to be a Dr. to practise as a Psychotherapist or Counselor in the UK, however we are gradually moving towards the Euro-standards and it is expected that within a few years we will have a minimum government recognised standard of training.

To be a Psychiatrist you obviously need to be medically trained as you work mainly with medication.
Hope that shines a light on the subject

Chris

It does. cool smile

That is very interesting to know; thank you for that, Mr. Cross!

It's of particular interest to me as it's a field I'd love to get into, myself; I studied some psychology post-school but skipped over into music instead. I have degrees in music performance and in Education, but I'm in the process right now of gathering info as to what I need to do to become a counselor here in Canada (where I now live). It's quite awesome to think that a guy who was a hero to me as a kid in one field still is, and in a different one!

By the way, congratulations to you, Chris Cross, on your achievements in TWO very important areas of life.

(I was going to just say two very important areas, but then I envisaged the follow-up comments............)

Aha! Everything is clear now, thanks for taking the time to explain, CHRIS.

See, in Germany, psychotherapists DO have to have a Dr. title - in general medecine, if I remember well. From there, they specialize.

Not sure how it works in Spain though. But from what I see, psychiatrists are more "in" because it is "easier" for the population to swallow pills or take drugs than to confront themselves. Being constructive and change ill behaviour and thought patterns that have been existing since childhood would be too much "work", it seems. It's easier to adopt a victim attitude. The post-Franco generation is not ready for this yet, they are too spoilt. Hopefully, the current crisis helps people with ill thinking structures to put things into perspective, like it usually happens when disgraces turn up in life.

HOWEVER, it is really really nice (awesome), after so many years, to see, hear and read you. Edinburgh was breath-taking (many of us cried during the first couple of songs) and Hammersmith was an explosion. Please try to make it to here. I will help your fans to find their way around. And I will get you a new phone via my Vodafone points, too, as I am due to pick up one for my mum soon. The only selection criteria here: BIG keys, in order not to miss them. Does this apply for you as well? LOL

SLOW MO - from what I have always been seeing in other threads, you DO have great communication skills. The question is whether you enjoy this role or not. I don't, which is why I keep away from sources of (constant) negative energy. Too energy-consuming, and I need to build up energy, not have it taken. Life's just too short.

GLENN - those comments, what would they be? Sorry, just woken up, still a bit thick...

Kisses from Barcelona,

Isabel

Following my own personal experiences of what happened in 2003 & thereafter, I've actually been looking into trying to get into some form of counselling, to help others who are going through what I myself have fought with for a few years since 2003 - a serious drink problem following a violent attack which has steadily been controlled in the last couple of years.

From speaking to my own former counsellor my understanding is it would be very difficult for me to get into. I'm not giving up hope though & I am trying to find a way "through the back door as it were", whilst looking for a job I am accustomed to in the meantime. Some forum members will know I have been journalling my experiences from this time which I eventually hope may become a tool to help others. My former counsellor has said I can forward a copy of what I have written so far to him. If it only helps one person I will consider it a success albeit an extremely minor one.

I have other "ambitions" about how I would like my experiences to benefit others but, one step at a time. smile

Hi Glenn.
I have had several university level courses in general psychology and animal behavior studies and found them to be fascinating. Some of my friends chose to pursue post degree work and now have careers in the field. There are different requirements here in the US depending on the specialization. Here is a link that describes all of that.
Hope it is of some use to you.

Thank you for that link, Mary Ann. I'm sure the situation can't be radically different in Canada than the USA, so that is very informative.
And for the replies, Snashy and Newvox. Snashy, your journal sounds like it would be very useful to many. Sorry to hear about the attack - well done for coming through it with a positive attitude. Words in type never seem to convey the meaning well enough, but my hat is off to you, sir.
I suppose there are many different ways to do something entailing psychological work. Personally, I was hoping to utilize my degree in Education and gain further qualification for school counseling; we shall see how it goes!
At the heart of that might well be the idea that dealing with students' problems one at a time rather than all at once seems attractive! I'm only half-joking............
They seem to be pushing courses in Adult psychology here in Canada right now. A university in Quebec offers online study - still needs looking into further though.
After a very unwelcome bout with tinnitus, I aim to find a quieter occupation than teaching bands in a classroom!

Yip, there you go - tinnitus (holistically speaking) can mean a lot of things, e.g. that one doesn't want to hear anymore, like neurodermitis has its reason to be (the skin being the organ that separates us from the world outside), like stomach and colon issues stand for swallowing things that are not good for us (ill communication patterns) etc.

HOLISTICALLY SPEAKING, I said. I myself have not had the chance to check, but on the other hand, I observe... It's been a few years since I was born and from what I have seen, these theories are not to be misregarded...

Goodnight all ;-)

Thanks Chris.

I hope you've got a new phone now. Big question: do you fancy becoming a part-time pro muso or will you return to your practice for good? I hope you stay as seeing you and the lads again has been awesome.
