Natalie! Shit or get off the pot?!!! Honestly, what language...

Umm very briefly, I wrote a review for this website Of Billy's "Unearthed" concert back in...1998 I think(?) Anyway, although it was very complimentary, I did criticise the back projections (they were being done live to accompany the music) as being a bit old hat or something (I was more constructive than that).

Anyway, Billy totally ignored the 99% of the review that was positive and had a hissy fit, accused me of having no life, slagging off artists blah de blah. I made the mistake of replying and trying to defend myself thinking he had made a mistake - and he wrote some ridiculous nonsensical stuff slagging me off again... So I replied again and basically said "you're talking rubbish now - if you don't stop emailing I'll put this on the web unedited so everyone can read it". He wrote similarly again, so I put it on my old website for all to see - and got a lot of positive support from people.

I took down that page after a year or so at the request of Billy's new manager at the time - by then it was "old news" anyway. The old website no longer exists - its finally bit the dust after several years of me doing nothing with it, although I have it all on backups (along with Billy's original emails). I hope to get organised and put up a new site soon with some stuff from the old site and new stuff too. Wouldn't really be fair to put up THAT page again though - it was a long time ago.

Funnily enough though, I never bought another Billy Currie release after that...

There you go - you asked. smile

(At least I put an asterisk in my rude word!)

Thanks for the clarification; hmmm... interesting reaction from BC, particularly in light of 'dentistgate' (I looked up the old thread on this after you clarified that reference!)

It's a shame when people can't take constructive critism; surely this is better (and gives more credibility to the positive comments) than gratuitous fawning...

Dont' suppose you got an apology and free CD in the end?! wink

Now - Newvox; anything to tell us?! <img border="0" alt="[Suave]" title="" src="graemlins/suave.gif" />

I think the worst thing you can do is communicate with an artist/musician on any level other than professional. You might be very disappointed at the outcome. (Let's just say I know from experience which I will not share. Sorry.) On the other hand, it could all be very good. Some musicians are generally nice people and not complete, egotistical prats.

As for this interview, I have not read it yet (but will soon), but I am sure that Chris' comments were just how he felt at the time, and as Cerise has said, if he remembers having said what he said, he might be embarassed that he said it. And anyway...not everyone in Ultravox hates America! One of them lives there!

Maryann, my experiences have not stopped me from loving Ultravox, and I am glad that you feel the same way. What the members of the band say in interviews or their personal opinions on things have no bearing on the music! Continue to enjoy it! laugh

Ok at the beginning of time or early 1995 to be exact, late in the evenings i used to ride my bike one mile from my house down to the town centre, so i could pop into the dance clubs etc.
After a few months of this i decided to look in the window of a smaller club just half way down to the town.
I found that instead of just playing records, they (The Kellys club)had live bands playing.
It turned out that one of the regular groups preformed covers of 80's classics.
So some nights i would go in there because it was closer to home, had live music, and Ultravox and numan covers.

After a month or so of listening and talking at the bar with groups i begain to notice a new group and more to the point, there singer.
The usual thing would happen, she would sing, and then we'd talk.
One thing lead to another and as Bryan Ferry would say, 'you can guess the rest'.

In our 13th month together a problem happened,(private wink ) and within weeks all i had were three cds to remind me. You all know how it is, you always remember things they said, even if you try not to. It plays in your mind, and on your hi fi if you have cds of there two faced personality.

The strange thing is even after nine years without her cds, i was still feeling bad enough to post it on the 20th as advice to Maryann.

Ive had some 'great' arguments with band members of the famous and not so famous over the years which is not just my place to talk about.
On the other side of that i did have a 'professional' problem with a famous singer, but she has a bad reputation, and i ended up liking her songs more, as i knew she was the real deal.

So there you have it ( edited for public viewing) smile

Natalie - sorry, I thought the swear filter was on! smile No apology no - didn't ask for or expect one though. His manager gave me a promo cd of some tracks that appeared on 1 of his later compilation albums when I took the page down. I later flogged it on ebay for a fiver, I think. smile I don't think the same guy is still managing him though... smile

I wasn't too surprised at getting the grief - I knew others had been sent abusive emails at 1 time or another. Artists, eh? Don'tcha just love 'em...

Newvox - is it me or have you still said "nothing"... wink

That's a shame, I'd have thought she was successful enough to be above all that. Usually it's ex-soap actors who've been drafted into the lead role on a show as a so-called name off the telly (to get the punters in) who behave like they are something special (not all of them, I hasten to add)... also theatre thesps who noboby's heard of outside the theatre industry; known as 'luvvies' (as opposed to 'turns' - musical performers; and 'twirlies' - chorus dancers) nervouslaugh

Tommy Steele (famous in the theatre as a musical performer; did 'Singing In The Rain' years ago) is one of the worst, apparently. He was so hated on SITR that members of the cast used to go and pee in the water tank that provided the rain for his solo dance number...ALLEGEDLY!
