I happened to watch the SAW retrospective documentary on ITV on Monday, and have to confess it was a bit of a gulity pleasure; wallowing in some late 80s PWL fromage.

Then a thought occurred; between 79-82 Midge's output in various shapes and forms was pretty prolific, Visage, the odd solo outing, colaborations (eg Yellow Pearl) alongside the day job with Ultravox. Okay, so he seemed to have eased off a bit from 83 onwards, but prior to that he was involved in dozen or so singles together with at least five albums. Even the Beatles weren't that prolific. So I'm wondering what peoples thoughts were on that comparison?

I know he worked with Banarama quite a bit. Directing videos and the like. Pretty sure he did a bit with Hazel O'Connor too in more ways than one! But I'm not Sure he actually wrote much.

SAW were hit makers and produced poppy songs sung by good looking boys and girls. Not sure Midge ever did that. Although Bananarama were pretty phwoar in their day!

SAW where more interested in the money than the quality. Like them or not - you have to admit that they where experts in producing music cheaply that would sell to the general public using any artists they could get hold off.
Midge in contrast has always been more interested in the music , collaborating with artists he admired/respected and helping new talented musicians.

Yes you may right but with a bit more class, I found this recently
http://www.mixcloud.com/atomic99/tribute-to-midge-ure/
someone has put together a plethora of groups as a tribute to the man!
This should reinforce you thoughts.
