Personally It's not my cup of tea but It's a very popular french style and very...very well produced.

PS was the video shot on a Cannon 5d by any chance? the footage is lovely.

It is a EOS 5D yes, for the live shots. MartinSanchez is also filmed on green screen for later compositing, and it is a small TV camera in a studio and a pro light technician (dooh !!! I should have said we went in space to shoot the muppet with a canon 5d!!what was I thinking). There are also 2 / 3 month of compositing (many evenings, after work).

I am glad you like the production; the sound on youtube/mp3 is not really the best to keep the original sound which is not really there. if I could I would lower the kick/snare just a bit and add a little ambience delay on the intro synth guitar. that's all i would change in that version (aside from myself but i had to do with what is available :-) ) . The music is very french new wave pop, yeah, it was intended that way. it would be better if better sung. But the point was not the music, but the character. it could have been a mistake not to insist more on the musical aspects. This project was to remain a one-shot anyway (it costs a lot to develop a visual character independantly, time, money, etc). It opened doors for other, better, things... so actually it didn't stop or refrain anything for the future...

We had it on heavy rotation in Summer 1999 @VIVA, it made me LOL every time I saw it, although I found the song boring. And still do. But the muppet is cute. And so is the one in your clip, hahahahaha!

All shootings were done in Paris' "chinatown" area. A lot of long evenings of post production/compositing too :-)

The pig was well amused throughout. Of course the footage must have been captured on a MK2, as the original 5D doesn't have the capability to capture video.

In the last 7 years, I've been to Mallorca, may be 10 times to visit a friend... i don't know when is next, he is in mexico now, which makes it more difficult to plan for holydays ;-)

Mehdi, you were the winner of the EV covers competition 2005, so I am rather surprised that hardly anyone has taken 3 minutes time to listen to your new track with the splendid video...

Besides, I wonder if you have enough friends (with filming, editing etc. abilities) and some resources to organize and produce a clip of this incredible quality... why don't Ultravox...? (sorry, just wondering aloud)

or may be they didn't like it, and were kind not to comment :-) i realize now the song is not accessible , there is an intention for how it is made but I think it is too subtle and radical at the same time. it's the ultravox fan club too, not the martinsanchez cold-techno-wave fan club ;-)

by the way, the reggae versions, that i like a lot too ;-)
i find them way superior even though the final mix is less good. was made in two days :-)
