Ultravox is out of the top 100 UK, and stayed one week only! Like many, I am very very disappointed. Why? We have no master song that pushes the album up as "vienna" did for the album "vienna". EMI does not seem to react, while the album is excellent and the critics are good. So here is my idea to turn the tide! We will jointly select a song from the album, and later, and went on Amazon.uk (MP3) and for those who want buy this song one time, 2 times, see more, each according to ability. It costs 1 euro for download (this is not the ruin). Thus, we hope went to the top 10, singles uk, and these radios station speak, finally, brilliant and Ultravox. Seeing nothing come from official, it is our only way to save from oblivion brilliant. Thank you.

What do you think of that?
If we do it
1 / we have to mobilize as many fans
2 / choose a song on the album
3 / do it together, the same week!

I share your disappointment hagen.

Maybe we could have a Facebook campaign called "Download Brilliant MP3 from Amazon Day" to coincide with the birthday of one of the band members - I believe the next one coming up is Chris Cross's birthday on 14th July.

goodone

we must respond, and I find your idea excellent. An example, I contact the radio station official Belgian, and ask why he did not broadcast "brilliant"? response of the radio: we have not received!

Hello both,

I find it a brilliant idea and I am immediately up for it (last night in a different thread I suggested to find a collective solution)!!!

Please have someone organizing this asap (I can't right now).

THIS ALBUM IS FULL OF HIT SINGLES!!!!!!!!!

We can organize a vote in here beforehand. Or simply listen to the children and go for "Satellite"... wink

GO! GO! GO!!!! LET'S DO IT!!!!!!!!! thumbs

And besides, e-mail and call the radio stations.

The record companies are not "mean" - they simply lack of staff and it is natural that they focus on "secure" values (from their point of view). And they employ a lot of young people who don't know who UV are... wink

On a different note: nowadays, a hit single does NOT necessary need a video clip anymore!!!

Sorry to put a downer on this , but the last time we tried it ( 30th anniversary of Vienna ) it failed miserably and didnt make the top 100. All attempts at UK chart manipulation ( since the spectacular sucess of Rage against the Machine ) have also be unsucessfull. Most recently an attempt to get Sex Pistols , God Save the Queen back into the charts last week for the Queens Diamond jubilee got to #80

If we do not attempt, we will achieve nothing! Brilliant fall into oblivion! We are +-2000 people on this forum and more on 30000 ultravox official facebook! with good communication , this is possible and everyone is free to do whatever he wants. This is a new album and nothing to do with the examples you say.

Couple of problems we encountered when we tried the Vienna 30th anniversary thing

1) Downloads from a UK site have to be paid for with a UK based credit card
2) Mutiple purchases by the same person where tracked and removed from the chart statistics

Visa and MasterCard operate in UK! In terms of statistics, those who wish to buy the song several times, will go on amazon.uk, itune.uk, play.com and others sites. At any problems there is a solution, but thank you, David, for mentioning these problems

Still worth a try! Especially because no real financial investment in required. Just the time to organize it plus the Euro or two for the download. Plus annoying the radio stations with e-mails and phone calls.

BETTER THAN SITTING ON OUR ELBOWS AND DO NOTHING... grin

It's still UNBELIEVABLE that this band got back together after all!! There were times when we were writing on this forum about a dead band that would remain dead forever. Let's never forget that!!

And further: let's not forget that quite a few members of this forum did not live long enough as to witness the reunion, let alone a new album. It is important to always remember that life and health are not to be taken for granted... alarm

My Spanish Mastercard was accepted at Amazon UK, and not for the first time. But it was not for download. Anyway - let's just try.

PS: Please excuse the high number of exclamation marks, they are to express joy, motivation, and a positive attitude. It's the vibes of the new album, it really REALLY is so fabulous!!!!

Maybe I am mis-remembering the exact reasons - but there are definatley restrictions in place designed to stop foreign downloads ( NOTE : downloads - physical purchases are different ) from UK sites that stopped a lot of people participating in the Vienna campaign.

Again I must stress that I am not against anything that trys to drum up some support , but the original post asked
"What do you think of that?"
And I am just giving you my honest and genuine thoughts based on past experience of the general concept.

Vienna was a cover and few people were really interested (which has not an album of vienna?), Here, is a new album, it's different and there is a objectif for the fans: save "brilliant" to a profound injustice.

DAVID - you do well in pointing out the circumstances of back then, and I am convinced that everyone in here is grateful for your recommendations (I am) and has understood your realistic and non-negative position. Thanks for this valuable information.

Let's just see how it goes... I don't mind spending € 2 and try. Sometimes, in life, things all of a sudden have a completely different result than the one expected and usual... Sometimes...

OR WE ORGANIZE A SPECIAL PROMO ACTION FOR THE BAND IN ORDER TO RAISE MEDIA ATTENTION, for instance a friendly football game with other artists of the 80's or a visit to an orphan's home (including a donation-to-be-raised) or something. There are thousands of possibilities, as we all know... And Midginksy is very famous in the UK, people know him there.

Buahahahaha, football game with Ultravox, can you imagine??

Or does anyone have good contacts to the UK press? Gary Barlow is nº 1 and he loves UV, with a little help he could mention BRILLIANT the album in one of his interviews as the album of the century. We'd have all his fans buying it... wink

In return, he is invited to the UV gig at Hammersmith Apollo for a guest performance.

I'm being a negative grump tonight but why release a single? Have you actually heard the radio nowadays, here's a link to the Capital Fm playlist (a national commercial radio station in the UK) http://www.capitalfm.com/on-air/playlist/ Why on earth would they consider an Ultravox single, Radio 2 maybe but who else? I've heard the track Brilliant on Radio 6 about 3 times but it isn't playlist material. The music the lads are making is for fans who have remained, it's possible they could pick up a few stragglers. Doesn't it also suggest something about the age of fans when you purchase a seat for the tour. In the last 2-3 years I've seen The Specials, New Order, Depeche Mode and a few other bands (although more current than the oldies) and not at one of them did I have a seat, I was stood at each and everyone of the gigs standing, dancing and sweating m'balls off. It is disappointing that the album dropped out of the chart after one week but I was surprised it charted at all, I read today that the most recent Kaiser Chiefs singles reached no. 179. So don't worry enjoy what you've got a new album and tour and don't be upset when your children want the latest Rhianna cd/mp3/illegal download that's where music is at the moment in the popular world.
A change of name to maybe DJ Ultravox would get a bit of airtime!
By the way I didn't read all the above comments just sort of browsed, so please don't slaughter me, I'm not having a go just being realistic.

The single "brilliant" is a good song but for passages on the radio, it's not the perfect song. I think "Lie" is more appropriate

Count me in Lavaocean, it's a good idea and this is the time to act! So far I have supported my all-time favorite band by investing in 3 copys of the new album and in 3 concerts in London, Copenhagen and Malmø - and I don't mind doing more investment! And I DO mean investment because this is the only way to show my support which hopefully means futher releases - and that my friends is a much better investment than the stock market!! :-)

Another idea: Many of us have cars - why not put a sticker in the rear window to make some local promotion?

Hope to see ya all in wonderfull Copenhagen, first row ;-)

OLE - hahahahaha, thanks but I am not the initiator, just a little bit the co-motivator... And stock market is not ALL that bad at the moment... Just avoid buying shares of Spanish banks... wink

NIGE - Even if I could travel on those dates, I would NOT opt for the UK dates precisely because I hate the seats, it's a slap in my (dancing) face. I'd rather go to the Copenhagen or Helsinki gigs instead!!! "If" I could travel on those dates... wink And you don't sound grumpy at all, btw.

Having said this: there are more songs for mature people in the charts, it's not just all pop & go, it's not all David Guetta n stuff, and UV are quality music. OK yes, they have a different audience than Céline Dion but I bet a lot of young people would go for it IF the had they chance of listening to Ultravox. And this is what we're trying to do: opening them to a larger audience... And besides - who says that only young people are to buy and download music and design the charts???

I LIKE THIS THREAD, BTW!! smile
