[img:left] http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1...e=1&theater[/img] This is the songs that keep returning, but I love all songs even the pre-80's. So, no top ten... more like the Hit-list.

Guys, and girls (trying not to sound like Jimmy Savile), this is brilliant. Oooops, I was trying to avoid that one Only fair that I should add mine. Quiet Men Astradyne Sleepwalk Waiting Mr. X Keep Talking We Stand Alone Stranger Within Monument Heart of the Country (12" extended) But it will have changed by tomorrow! Keep 'em coming - and Rodney, that' a cop-out

Virtually impossible when one has so many equally loved favourites to single out so few from those on the shortlist but here are the first ten and in no particular order.......
One Small Day Lament Hymn The Voice I remember death in the afternoon Rage in Eden Vienna Love's Great Adventure We Stand Alone Man of Two Worlds
The hardest to leave off that list include Dancing with tears in my eyes, Reap the Wild Wind, The Song (we go) and All in one day. Sorry to be awkward but amending my choice this way as can't edit it..... One Small Day Lament Hymn The Voice I remember death in the afternoon Rage in Eden Vienna Love's Great Adventure We Stand Alone Reap the Wild Wind Final choice despite not being able to fit DWTIME etc in there and still in no particular order.....

Really difficult, however for me more importantly is that they must all be heard live!
In no particular order
Lament One small day We stand alone I remember death in the afternoon Visions in blue The thin wall Astradyne Your name has slipped my mind again Rage in Eden Hymn

Very, very dificult to choose. But I can try a list according to the impact of the tracks in diferent moments of my ultravox bio.
In no particular order (or chronoligical):
- Astradyne (after de RTE tour: unforgettable first notes!) - New Europeans (so powerful and dramatic!) - Vienna (of course!) - The Voice (first Ultravox track to listen in a humble tape: Monument live recording) - I Remember (I always thinked it's the best way to explain somebody what means Ultravox sound) - Hymn (also better in Monument version) - Building (best example of the quality of Ultravox b-sides) - Man of two worlds (my prefered Lament song, so misterious and solemn) - When the time comes (fluctuating, melancholic) - Brilliant (forever, the emotion of the reborn, euphoric!)
PD: Without Warren (so, not real Ultravox) I will save "All in one day".

After a wet weekend spent listening to Ultravox albums i have been trying to come up with my top ten tracks, which has been really hard because i love the way all the tracks on the albums just "work" together and part of the enjoyment for me has always been how 1 track just flows so well into the next. I could not listen to an Ultravox compilation,it wouldnt be right! Anyway here are my stand out tracks in album order- 1 ASTRADYNE wasnt a favourite all those years ago as a 13 yr old first listening to Vienna but when they opened with this on RTE it was such a spine tingling moment that i now relive every time i hear it. 2 NEW EUROPEANS loved this right from the start,it was unlike anything i had heard before,so 80s! 3 VIENNA its got to be there, the song that started it all for me and Midges vocals are outstanding, something about the way he sings "a cool empty silence" still makes me go weak at the knees my favourite ever song. 4 STRANGER WITHIN hard to choose from the Rage in Eden tracks,my favourite album, but love the lyrics to this. 5 ACCENT ON YOUTH,THE ASCENT,YOUR NAME cheating a bit here but these 3 tracks just feel like 1.Seem to perfectly conjure up the teenage "angst" that i felt at the time! 6 MINE FOR LIFE again great lyrics "i hate it all but there must be more to hate than this" 7 VISIONS IN BLUE atmospheric, amazing vocals and i have to choose this as i have "Ashes of Memories Still Aglow" tattooed on me! 8 WE CAME TO DANCE just a great tune 9 ONE SMALL DAY absolutely amazing live 10 A FRIEND I CALL DESIRE still sounds great, love the words to it and the guitar bit near the end! Thanks for starting this topic, its been fun trying to work out my favourites

Wow - blown away by this. Never expected this response, even if it is a good way to speed away the time until Brilliant come out I've run an article on my Ultravox choices, with the full reasoning in the new issue of re:VOX being posted out from tomorrow (which has a new Rian Hughes interview), and if everyone's happy then I'd like to collate your comments both on the forum and in a fuller way in print in a future issue too. Fantastic! Thanks everyone!

In roughly chronological order: 1 Slow Motion 2 Sleepwalk 3 Vienna 4 All Stood Still 5 Passionate Reply 6 The Voice 7 We Stand Alone 8 I Remember 9 The Thin Wall 10 Astradyne/Private Lives/Mr X/Western Promise/Rage in Eden/Paths and Angles/Man of Two Worlds - medley I've found a bit of time to flesh out my previous post and put in some reasoning for my choices: 1. Slow Motion I love the way the synths and guitars wrestle with each other on this. A real ground-breaking track. A lovely simple tune and great vocals too. 2. Sleepwalk Great sci-fi feel to this. It reminds me of an old episode of Dr Who with Jon Pertwee battling the Daleks. There was some kind of building making a pulsing sound like the synths in Sleepwalk. 3. Vienna The song (and video) that got me into music. They both made me sit up, go "wow!" and realise that something magical was out there. 1981 would turn out to be a great year for music. 4. All Stood Still Another great battle of the synths and guitars. I love the utter chaos in the instrumental sections of this, all neatly contained by a teutonic drum and bass section. 5. Passionate Reply Love the synth solo on this. Probably the band's best. Billy only bettered this on Gary Numan's "On Broadway". 6. The Voice So many layers to this song. There's still something new when I listen to it now. Great drum fills after each chorus and two synth solos! 7. We Stand Alone 8. I Remember Both have great mystery, drama and atmosphere. The essence of the Rage in Eden album. 9. The Thin Wall This is utterly bonkers. A mad rhythm section, squealing guitar, layers of synths and some violin too. And great backing vocals. Who else could do anything like this? The video was the epitome of the era. The Return to Eden version is outstanding. 10. Okay I cheated. So I'll plump for ... Astradyne Vienna was the first album I ever bought, so Astradyne was the first non-single album track I ever heard. An amazing Krautrock track for the 1980s with brilliant instrumentation. It gives me goose-pimples and takes me back to when I was 14 years old.

Okay, here's a quick analysis of how it's all shaping up without tipping the vote and revealing which songs are trailing and which song is leading 77 different songs have been voted for in total, with specifically marked versions of songs counted separately; 5 songs have polled more than 20 votes each; 26 songs have only been voted for once; Brilliant has received five votes so far, although I had to discount every other track off the Brilliant LP at the moment (you know who you are - tsk!), as the public has only heard the song Brilliant to date 1 studio album and 2 live albums have had no songs selected from them at all; 4 studio albums have had all their tracks voted for; The 2 lowest scoring albums are Return to Eden and Ultravox!; The 2 highest scoring two albums are Vienna and Rage in Eden; Of those songs selected from singles and 12”s – 4 share just 1 vote each, with only 2 songs polling more than 5 votes each; Someone tried to sneak in Your Name (Has Slipped My Mind Again) after after the two-in-one song Accent on Youth/The Ascent, so as that made 11 songs we had to discount Your Name in that instance - sorry Right, well unless you really want to carry on with this after the end of May, I suggest we call it quits once Brilliant arrives in the stores, as I think we’ll all be busy absorbing all that lovely new music instead of what went before... And that will be more than enough stat's to process without my head exploding I'll probaly run some selection from the reasons for your choices in the next issue of re:VOX, along with the analysis posted here, and then I'll run the final results in the issue following that after Brilliant has been released. Brilliant!

Brilliant has received five votes so far, although I had to discount every other track off the Brilliant LP at the moment (you know who you are - tsk!), as the public has only heard the song Brilliant to date Yeah, sorry about that - it was me being hopeful/optimistic about the album. If I had to list ten tracks right now - and all we can say is our favourite songs at one moment - they would probably be. All Stood Still Astradyne Hiroshima Mon Amour We Stand Alone Man of two Worlds One Small Day Passionate Reply Quiet Men The Wild, The Beautiful and the Damned Young Savage

No worries Boxnudger, it is difficult to cram such brilliance into a mere ten tracks :0) I'm compiling the final data now, and have just noticed that Adam on the 20th April actually voted for Mr. X twice Obviously an extra-special favourite song of his. Do you want to choose another song? Results imminent!
