I wasn't looking to get this but the more I think about it the more tempted I am (I have the Vienna Record Store Day release from a few years ago)
Very interested in a new Vienna boxset, hopefully there's some new content on it and not just another remaster of the album - I will always appreciate more unreleased live or demo tracks if available

B sides and rarities on another and then a two disc concert from the relevant tour. On the Blu Ray is a 5:1 mix and the other audio plus a documentary and promo videos. If they release something similar to this for Vienna, especially with Steve Wilson involved it will be amazing. His remix of Brave was fantastic.

My understanding is it's only available in stores (or inflated ebay prices after) - I went into my record store today and they said this one would be around £17 through them

looks like this might be the listing for the single:
Exclusive 12” Clear vinyl for RSD. A 40th Anniversary release of Ultravox’s debut single with Midge Ure on vocals. Originally only released on 7” single in 1980, this will be the first time on 12” and features a brand-new stereo mix by Steven Wilson. A-side ‘Sleepwalk [2020 Stereo Mix], B-side ‘Waiting [2020 Stereo Mix]. the A-side is taken from the forthcoming 'Vienna' 40th Anniversary Box Set for late Summer 2020.
Track Listing: A1 Sleepwalk (Steve Wilson Stereo Mix) A2 Waiting (Steve Wilson Stereo Mix) B1 Sleepwalk (Conny Plank 1980 Mix) B2 Waiting (Conny Plank 1980 Mix)

Interesting. This wording: "the A-side is taken from the forthcoming 'Vienna' 40th Anniversary Box Set for late Summer 2020." Does this mean that the original versions/ mixes will not be in the box set? Anyway, I hope we get a 1980 full gig also.

Anyway, I hope we get a 1980 full gig also. well obviously, there will be the original versions. i guess the b-sides, mixes, and of course, a full version of the album remixed by steve wilson in stereo. a live gig would be great. but i think that would be about it. i doubt there would be a 5.1 mix, it adds to the cost. and to me is unnecessary and gimmicky. put out a separate one if people want to get it that way. later -1

I defintely think we'll get a 5:1 as Steve usually does that first and then a fresh stereo mix, here's hoping!! Actually he makes the stereo version first to ensure the core sound is correct & then creates the surround mix.

This year’s Record Store Day is moving again, due to the COVID19 pandemic, and will now be split into THREE ‘drop’ dates: 29 August, 26 September and 24 October.
Record labels are being encouraged to evenly split their releases across these three days and the online sales rules for participating retailers are expected to be relaxed with RSD shops likely to be able to sell stock online at the end of each of the three dates (instead of waiting a week).
A new RSD list will be published on 1 June which will show which releases will be available on which days.

The latest issue of Mojo (Aug 2020) has an article on Vienna, under the Time Machine section, marking its release 40 years ago. Both Midge and Billy interviewed. No mention of the RSD single, but a mention of the Steve Wilson remix for a "new edition". No release date mentioned. A nice read!

I'll be queuing up outside my local record store tomorrow in the hope of picking up the Sleepwalk 12". If I'm lucky enough to get a copy then I can't wait to hear the new 2020 mix. Exciting times for Ultravox fans what with this and the Vienna boxset!

Unfortunately Sleepwalk was a no show at my local record store - they didn't receive any in their allocation (nor did they have any of the other titles I had highlighted either...). I did manage to pick up a few nice things though, plus a free magazine.
So I've ended up ordering a copy from eBay and paid the price for it (£27.99 + P&P)! It was either that or wait until 6pm today and see if I could pick it up online from one of the participating retailers. I suspect I would have been struggling though as it appears as if many outlets have already sold out of the Sleepwalk 12".

Went to a local store only to be faced with a 30 plus person queue at half past seven, did wait until almost half eight, but with the queue not moving had to give up the ghost as my arthritis was awful. Tried another shop a few miles down the road but no stock So managed to get one online tonight for delivery next week. Also got the two David Bowie cds I wanted as well. Anyone who has it what do you think of the new mix?

I wonder if prices are being inflated. Just ordered it off discogs, there are several sellers all selling it for $20 US and less. I got it for $18+shipping, so will have it next week. It shouldn't be too much more than that. (Thought about getting the U2 11'oclock tick tock, but backed out of it). later -1

Only just got chance now to play the RSD 12", having been away for a week. I think Steven Wilson has done a superb job with the new mix of Sleepwalk. Interestingly, listening to the very opening section of the song, his new mix is very similar in character to the "early version" of the song (as issued on disc 2 of the 2008 Vienna re-issue). In other words, the drums and moog bass are somewaht drier but do have more of a solid bottom end. Overall, there is greater clarity throughout and the ARP solo in the middle really cuts through, without as much reverb as on the original mix. Of course this is just my opinion and others may have different findings but I feel it bodes very well for the rest of the remixed songs on the upcoming 40th Anniversary release.
The new mix of Waiting is interesting too - I get the impression there is quite a lot of stuff on the multitrack for this song and this has allowed Steven to be a little more creative with his new mix. Compared to the original, the effects are lessened on the first spoken "waiting" parts and later in the song, different guitar and synth parts are brought up in different places. The ending is a nice surprise too..
All good stuff though and exciting times for the Ultravox fans!

Are you saying that Steven has done more than one mix of Waiting and that the one that will appear on the Vienna 40th Anniversary box will be different to the version on the Sleepwalk 2020 RSD 12"?

I actually meant to say "His first mix of Passionate Reply was interesting" - my mistake. As you would probably expect, SW mixed everything initially, several versions of some tracks, and sent his preferred choices to Chrysalis who reviewed them. Some tracks - only a few - were tweaked after the feedback. They were then approved by the band. I could cause a huge panic amongst those that didn't get the RSD 12" if I said it was different, couldn't I? But rest assured: the RSD & V40 releases include the same SW mixes. AWS
