The excellent series "Shoestring", starring Trevor Eve, is getting a full DVD release on the 16th of October. Both the 1979 & 1980 series are included (only series 1 has had a DVD release, in 2011) with apparently no edits, which is fantastic news for those of us who have been waiting years for all the episodes to appear on DVD, uncut.

Are there any fans of the series on here?

According to the Network website a new book will also be included on the making of Shoestring (written by Andrew Pixley) with contributions from the original cast members.

It's out now but a bit pricey at 45.00! Hopefully it'll come down a bit eventually.

Is there anyone on here who remembers the original broadcasts from 1979/1980? I've recently been corresponding with the Shoestring fan website about the episode "Stamp Duty". I seem to recall a scene where Eddie, who's tied-up unconscious in a freezer, gets plied with alcohol through a funnel before being thrown out the back of a van on the motorway.

However, in the 2011 DVD release and the latest one there is no such scene, so either I'm confusing it with a totally different programme or it was excised after the first broadcast for being too violent.

I'd dearly like to know if anyone else who watched the original broadcasts has a memory of such a scene because, if it never existed, then the question remains of how Eddie's captors were able to get a frozen and unconscious man drunk?

Yes, I read that the other day and it does suggest an excised scene doesn't it?

It's become something of an obsession with me now and I can't rest until it's resolved! Hopefully I'll be vindicated one day: I'll just have to hope I bump into Trevor Eve himself so I can ask him directly! smile

It doesn't show the actual 'pumping' beforehand unfortunately. frown

Someone told me the other day that there is a scene in the film "Sweeney!" where John Thaw is plied with alcohol in the back of a car using a funnel by a couple of heavies. I've never seen the film but it made me wonder if I'd caught a glimpse of it as a kid and over time it became intertwined with the Shoestring episode? I've tried to find that clip online but to no avail!
