There's a new 13-disc Vangelis box set out in February entitled "Delectus" which includes works that are remastered for the first time such as China and Antarctica. Vangelis is quoted as saying he welcomes remastering as it brings the sound of his older works to 'today's standards'. I'm very much hoping that doesn't entail the use of compression.

Not an enormous fan of Vangelis but do like bits and pieces. Probably not enough to buy a 13 album box set though! Remastering can be tastefully done but whether it will be...

I remastered a Vangelis live show recently. I don't actually think his stuff benefits from lots of compression at all. Can't imagine Bladerunner with pumping bass synths....ugh...

I think I'll hold back from purchasing until I've seen a few reviews first. I'm a fan particularly of his work covering the '76-'79 period- Albedo 0.39, Spiral, Beaubourg & China especially, but also albums outside that range, such as Antarctica.

An interesting live show too, although it sounds as if Vangelis had a lot of it on tape! Having said that I must admit his prowess with the 'Play' button is undeniable. grin

The first reviews of Delectus are online, including one from the Elsewhere Vangelis site: Delectus Review Parts 1 & 2

Unfortunately it appears that some tweaking and editing has taken place as with other recent Vangelis remasters. For myself, I think I'll be content to stick with my original vinyl copies.
