So. What's the big announcement?

Something very special. For the pre-show Voxgate for the London Hammersmith concert on the 11th April, we've booked the prestigious music venue The 100 Club in Central London from late afternoon to early evening, and we have two fantastic bands coming to help us with the day.

What?! You're kidding us, right?

Nope, you read correctly. And we're very pleased to finally be able to tell you about it.

Why this venue and not somewhere closer to Hammersmith?

Last year was fun, but at the time we considered it a genuine one-off and promised ourselves we'd never do one of these events again. But by a happy set of events, speculatively asking some questions, and the people we asked them to coming back quickly with such positive answers, we thought 'Well, why not? Why not put on another last hurrah!?...'.

When we first discussed hosting another 'Official Voxgate' in December 2009, our intention was for it to be at the same venue as last year; but with Messengers agreeing to come and play for us, we discussed the practicalities of going back to The Grove. Although it's a wonderful eatery and meeting place, we spoke to the members of Monument who played for us last year and the consensus was that because this year is something special, a proper venue set up would work better for our plans. We organised last year without necessarily considering how it would be for a band upstairs. With the room so small, the sound levels were incredibly loud and as there was no proper staging, it limited the view that people actually had and that was a bit dependent on where they were able to stand. From our perspective, because the venue was on split levels and also had an outdoors area, it was difficult to know whether everyone was an EV-er or not, and to organise everyone at the right times to make sure they were taking the opportunity to see the band. This year, we think there will be huge interest when people learn of our plans and that many will want to see and hear these particular bands in a setting that befits proper music.

Why the admission charge?

Last year, the three of us (and our respective partners) put up all the costs for the venue hire and the bands transport costs ourselves. It cost us a fair amount of money, and although we were happy to do so, we did so believing it would be a one off event. We run EV in our own time and, for the most part, our own resources; this much is known already and we're not going to make a big issue of that here. However, for this year's Voxgate, there are larger expenses needed to be paid to put the event on and we need to try and recoup as much of that as we can through your support of buying tickets. The 100 Club, unsurprisingly, has a lot of benefits against the hiring of a room over what is essentially a pub. It's licensed to hold 300 people (so we believe there will be enough room to accommodate people wanting to attend), it's located centrally and is easy for anyone to find who are visiting the capital that day. It also means people will be able to hear the music through a proper club speaker system. If Messengers and Party Fears Three are travelling from Scotland to play for us, we reason that we'd like them to have as enjoyable a day and experience playing in this venue as we believe everyone will all have watching.

Why the need for ticketing?

It took lot of our time and effort trying to organise ticket allocations last year (and we learned some valuable lessons of the 'no matter what you do for people or how helpful you try to be, some will always query your actions, complain or comment that your decisions are not fair' variety). This time around the number of tickets available is precise and are available online through this link:

Entry to the event is strictly by ticket only. By taking this approach, people wanting to attend have the choice on purchase and whether or not to attend. It also means the three of us are not put in the impossible position of having to choose one person over another, as became the case last year.

'WeGotTickets' are based in Oxford and we believe them to one of the fairer ticket agencies, with only a standard booking fee of 10% to additional to the face value of your tickets being applied. There are no other charges (visible or hidden) for using different types of credit card, which makes for easier administration for us and the venue on event day.

In the event of an unsold online ticket allocation becoming available, on the day purchase will also be an option at the venue and we will notify people of this through a news item on the EV homepage on Saturday 10th April 2010.

What if I'm dragging Auntie Gladys along and it seems a bit steep to make her pay when all she's doing is humouring my obsession with music and giving me a bed for the night? And will my 11 year old quintuplets be safe waiting on Oxford Street while I go in to the party - I don't want to have to pay fifty quid just to bring them in?

We are aware that people will have differing circumstances and arrangements for coming to London, and we don't want anyone to be put off coming due to the ticket price. However, we do not think �10 (including booking fee) is unreasonable for people to contribute and to make the event a success. However, if you think you may be a special case, please contact the email address voxgate100club@yahoo.co.uk and we'll see what we can do for your relatives / kids / minders. But as we are bearing the entire financial risk of this personally, we do reserve the right to decide each case on its merits and our decision is final.

Is there an age limit?

Yes, the club has a strict over 18s policy, although because the Voxgate is effectively a private event, they have agreed to allow some under 18s entry as long as they are accompanied by an adult and are supervised at all times. However, we do need to be aware of how many under 18s are attending, and so if you are planning on bringing someone who falls into this age category along, please drop us a line at voxgate100club@yahoo.co.uk so that we can keep a list and be aware of numbers. By letting us know in advance, it means we can make the venue aware of numbers on the day if tickets have been purchased in advance and ensure that people will not be turned away at the door. If you have any questions on this, please contact us at the email address. From our perspective, we would welcome younger visitors attending - age should not be a barrier to experiencing good live music.

Is there a dress code for the club?

Bad clothing should also not be a barrier to experiencing good live music. Everyone with a valid ticket is welcome and there is no dress code.

If I choose to attend, will I need ID?

'WeGotTickets' operates as a paperless ticket delivery service and when booking you will be given a unique reference with an e-mail confirming this sent to you shortly after your order has gone through. This booking reference along with formal ID will need to be presented at the venue in order to gain entry to the event. You will also need proof of age or concessionary status, where applicable.

How do I get to the venue?

The 100 Club is located on Oxford Street, a few minutes' walk from Tottenham Court Road Underground station and next to the Plaza shopping centre.

Bus routes that stop directly outside the Club are:

Will there be food available?

Unfortunately the club is not able to offer food at the moment. However, there are many restaurants to choose from offering all types of food located in the area close to the venue.

Are there bar facilities?

Yes. From our experience, the prices are reasonable and less than some pub prices in the West End in many instances.

Will I be able to buy a souvenir?

Yes, we are planning to produce some T-shirts and suchlike, any profits from which will be split equally with Messengers and Party Fears Three. You will be able to buy these from EV's online store, but not at the venue on the night.

Where is EV's online store?

Our online store will be changing in a week's time from ShirtCity to Zazzle. It's still being set up at the moment, but we'll announce the link as soon as it is available. Zazzle offer excellent quality, embroidered rather than printed items if you'd like, quicker turnaround times and up to 2XL on most items and up to 3XL and 6XL on selected items such as the Basic Shirt. Size has been an issue with ShirtCity, so hopefully switching to Zazzle will resolve this.

I'm attending the Ultravox Hammersmith Apollo show and am worried I will not be able to get to the venue before Showtime. What are the timings of the day going to be?

We have exclusive use of the venue from 3pm until 7pm, which we believe will allow everyone attending time to reach Hammersmith Apollo by the time the show starts. Timings at this stage are planned to be:

3:00pm Doors Open
3:45pm Party Fears Three
4:30pm Interval
5:00pm Messengers
6:00pm (Music Finishes)
7:00pm Curfew and exit from club

About the acts...

Messengers are comprised of Danny Mitchell (instrumentation) and Colin King (vocals).
Formed from the ashes of Modern Man in 1981, following the acclaimed album Concrete Scheme (produced by Midge Ure), the duo were to keep close to the Ultravox machine for the next few years. After the recording of some demos, Messengers were offered the support slot for Ultravox, where they would not only open up unsuspecting Ultravox fans to their music but would also augment the live line-up of the main act. Midge Ure produced a further three singles for Messengers (I Turn In (To You), Great Institutions and Frontiers), all of which are remembered fondly by fans. Sadly, the band lost momentum around 1984/1985 and an album deal never materialised, although this didn't stop their Ultravox connection - Danny was incorporated into Midge Ure's 1985 live band for his solo The Gift Tour and Colin in 1986/87 on Ultravox's U-Vox Tour. Additionally, the pair have had writing partnerships with Midge Ure over many years, with Danny co-writing the hits If I Was, That Certain Smile and Wastelands and both members co-writing the song Call Of The Wild.

In 2004, Messengers completed and recorded the album, It's Been Twenty Years, Let's Try Turning Up the Volume which is available exclusively from www.ultravox.org.uk. With Danny and Colin expressing their delight at being asked to perform at The 100 Club as �a total bolt out of the blue!�, Extreme Voice is thrilled to host Messengers' first live appearance since 2002.

Party Fears Three are a covers band with a subtle twist. Using a combination of modern technology, vintage instrumentation and repurposed sound sources, they provide authentic, yet updated, versions of some of the finest songs from the 80s genre.

Formed in Edinburgh in late 2008 by Steve Adam (Keyboards, Vocals, Audio and Visual elements), Mike Lyden (Guitars and Vocals) and Don Thomson (Keyboards), they have quickly developed an impressive reputation through performing a clutch of well received live shows, including support slots with established eighties acts The Beat and Bad Manners. As Steve Adam has commented, �Our aim is to produce shows that in terms of sound and visuals strongly evoke the bands whose work we cover, but that are also stamped with our own identity. By doing this, we are hopefully making them an interesting and appealing prospect for anyone that has an affinity for the great music of this era and, at the same time, something a little different from what you might expect from conventional tribute bands.�

About the venue...

Located discreetly on London's famous Oxford Street, The 100 Club is one of the most celebrated live music venues in in the world and has been promoting live music on the same premises since 1942. Originally a restaurant called Mack's, live music was first played here when British jazz drummer Victor Feldman's father hired the venue regularly on a Sunday night to showcase the talents of his jazz loving sons and their band. Its longevity is due to an open minded music policy which has seen many different musical styles performed at this venue over its long history.

The Club's heritage is legendary and has seen performances from acts as diverse as Glen Miller, Louis Armstrong, Roxy Music, Youssou N'Dour, Georgie Fame, The Sex Pistols, Muddy Waters, Hugh Masekela, B. Former Rich Kids members Glen Matlock and Midge Ure have come together to organise a celebratory benefit concert in London. This very special evening will see the coming together of original Rich Kids guitarist Steve New and drummer Rusty Egan. The event will take place at the O2 Academy, Islington on Thursday 7th January 2010. The show will start promptly at 7pm.

UPDATE: Tickets are £17.50 plus booking fee and will be on sale from Friday 4th December from www.livenation.co.uk.

Midge will appear on a Sky Arts 1 programme called Songbook: Midge Ure on Thursday 17th December. It's on from 20:00 to 21:00. According to the blurb:

Midge Ure looks back on his Glaswegian youth and how the motivation for forming a band was at first purely to attract girls. The Scottish singer recalls his days with Visage, Ultravox and remembers how his famous collaboration with Bob Geldof came about. Midge talks about leaving the security of writing with bands to launch a solo career and the inspiration behind his hit single If I Was.

Guests confirmed are The Illuminations (featuring Clive Langer, Steve Allen and Ian Broudie), TV Smith (from the Adverts), Viv Albertine (from The Slits), Carbon Silicon (featuring Mick Jones and Tony James), Patti Paladin and Gary Kemp (from Spandau Ballet).

Glen and Midge will perform solo slots on the night and Steve New will play with his band Beastellabeast before all four of the Rich Kids, which will include original drummer Rusty Egan, take to the stage. Special guests will no doubt "join in the racket and play guitars very loudly", according to Midge.

This has been mastered at Abbey Road studios from the original BBC source tapes, so we believe that this will be the best sounding version of this concert.

The spectacular Ultravox reunion continues in 2010 with Return to Eden part 2! This second leg of the tour kicks off with 6 dates in the UK, followed by dates in Switzerland, Germany, The Netherlands, Denmark and Belgium.

ELECTRIC DREAMS?

Ultravox will be making an appearance in the second episode of Electric Dreams, a BBC4 social experiment where a family and their home are stripped of all their modern technology to live a life of decades past. According to our TV mag and the link above, when they hit the 80s, Ultravox demonstrate the synth technology from that era. We're not sure if this means one, two or all of the band members (if it was filmed in April it could feasibly be all of them), so you'll just have to watch to find out!

The first episode aired yesterday, Tuesday 29th September and will be repeated multiple times. The second episode, featuring Ultravox, airs on Tuesday 6th October at 9pm on BBC4.

We are having some one-off Ultravox auctions starting at 99p this week, ending Sunday night, 4th October - most notably three fully signed Return to Eden items: a SIGNED TOUR PROGRAMME, A2 SCREEN PRINT and A5 LEAFLET. They feature the iconic 'Rage in Eden' face and are fully signed in black, permanent marker by the band: Midge Ure, Warren Cann, Billy Currie and Chris Cross. All three items were signed on the second date of the tour, at the Glasgow SECC.

We purchased some A2 screen prints (�20 apiece unsigned) and a couple of tour programmes, along with a small handful of promotional leaflets to get signed, mostly for giveaways and competition prizes. Two screen prints, items from the band, CDs, signed postcards etc were given away at a free Voxgate event we ran in London during the tour; another screen print and one tour programme were given away in a subsequent draw; a further screen print is currently being given away in a draw for those submitting scans of tour press clippings, ticket stubs, photos etc to the site; and several more screen prints will be given away, one a year, for our annual Ultravox Covers Competition.

Only ONE signed screen print, ONE signed tour programme and ONE signed leaflet are being auctioned, starting at 99p, to give everyone else - who can't take part in our draws or competitions for whatever reason - a chance to own one. The photos you see here are of the actual items.

Cerise is also having a bit of a clearout - see the eBay Store for more Ultravox auctions, which include an extremely rare Monument tie pin / badge, sheet music books, 2 signed CDs and 4 signed tour programmes, plus a John Foxx leaflet signed by Gary Numan, a Peter Gabriel autographed photo and other unrelated autographs such as Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ralph Fiennes and Alan Rickman.

As of today, Monday, 7 September 2009, the 2CD Remastered Definitive Editions of the Lament and U-VOX albums are available to buy. Once again EV has been closely involved with Ultravox and EMI in the processes of making these albums available once again, and we can now confirm the following.

As with the recently released definitive editions of Vienna, Rage in Eden, Quartet and Monument, the forthcoming re-releases of Lament an d U-VOX will take the following format: Disc One will contain the original UK album, whilst Disc Two will include all of the B-sides and extra tracks taken from accompanying singles, plus (wherever possible) a selection of previously unreleased material.

All audio and visual material that has been previously available was remastered between during April and May 2009 at Abbey Road Studios, London, with the previously unreleased material mastered for the first time specifically for these new editions. Previously available recordings were taken from the original master tapes, while the extra tracks were sourced from a combination of other sources that include EMI's tape archive and recordings provided by Ultravox. As with the previous releases, we believe the work that has been undertaken has given these albums a fresher edge that has not been captured on any previous editions and that everyone will be very pleased with the results.

As previously detailed, some of the previously unreleased material is, by its very nature, not up to the usual fidelity of studio recordings, but it has nevertheless been mastered to the highest possible standard. The decision was taken by Ultravox and EMI to include them for their 'historical significance'. These 'extra' tracks all capture moments that would otherwise have remained unheard and further add to the 'Definitive' nature of these releases.

Lament and U-VOX will adopt similar packaging to the previous definitive edition releases, i.e. a protective cardboard 'O' slip case box together with an eight-page full-colour booklet. The physical release booklets will mainly contain appropriate photographs and imagery, but sadly no lyrics. However, the individual album design has remained as we always intended and in line with EMI's guidelines for digital downloading, a separate twenty-page version of the booklets have been made available that will comprise the full design, including new and updated artwork not seen in the original releases, never before seen photos AND lyrics. Ultravox were again keen that the latter be made available to as many fans as possible and they can be downloaded for free from www.ultravox.org.uk.

One item we are pleased to announce in respect of the Lament re-issue is that the inner cover of the physical release has adopted the 'black squares on black background' artwork that saw limited release with initial copies of the album in 1984. This was subsequently replaced by the 'standing stones' artwork that that has appeared on all editions since, but is reinstated here for the first time. This artwork is only available for the initial run of the Remastered Definitive Edition and future single-disc editions will feature the 'standing stones' artwork.

Thanks to the kind generosity of Eric Heinitz and Steve Burrell, Ultravox.org.uk has been given three Ultravox tickets with excellent seating to auction, to raise funds for the maintenance of the website.

Each ticket will be sold separately. Starting at their face value of 335.00, we will accept sealed bids by email only to ev@ultravox.org.uk until 9am Tuesday 7th April. The highest bidder over the face value for each ticket will win.

We have received a few questions about the Ultravox.org.uk T-shirt store and thought it best to put together a short list of FAQs.

Why are some items different prices?

The price of each item depends on the number of colours and the number of sides it's printed on - this creates the base price, on top of which we make a few pounds per order, to help with Ultravox.org.uk site maintenance, etc.

How do I view or change details about an item?

If you click on an item image, you can then view photos of both the front and back. You can change the shirt's colour to navy, red, green, sand, grey etc etc, select a size, select a quantity and scroll down to see information regarding the material, stitching and thickness. You can also choose to add a text backprint if you wish, to display your Forum name and/or real name. This helps with identification at Voxgates!

Are the shirts good quality?

Yes, they are. Even the Basic T-shirt is Fruit of the Loom and the others are of similar or better quality.

How are the shirts printed?

ShirtCity states that a computer-controlled cutting plotter cuts text and logos out of a special foil. This extremely thin special foil (only 50 �m) is then merged with the textile under constant heat and very high pressure. Even after many washings, the resulting colour coating will not lose its brilliance.

How do I wash my shirt?

Turn the shirt inside-out before washing.
Machine wash at 40 degrees Centigrade.
Do not iron the print.
Don't tumble dry after washing.

Is there a sizing guide for each item?

Yes, there is. Click on the shirt you are interested in, then click on the '?' next to the size picker. This will give you a pop-up window with size information for that item.

What sizes are in the shop?

The Ladies range tends to be from Small to Large, so if you're on the larger or taller side, try the men's (unisex) range. The Mens goes from Small to 2XL and there is a separate range of 3XL T-shirts. The sizes do seem to be very slightly on the small size, so if in doubt, order one size up.

Can I return an item if it doesn't fit me?

Each item is printed to order, so in most cases, no. ShirtCity don't accept returns unless the garment is faulty, or the size is very different to that staed in their Sizing Guide for that item - so please do check the Sizing Guide VERY CAREFULLY.

What if English is not my first language?

The shop can be changed to multiple languages.

What payment does the shop take?

Payment is accepted via Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Switch, Solo, JCB, Diners and PayPal.

How soon will my order arrive?

Please note that orders are produced in 2-5 business days and then delivered in 2-4 business days, depending on your location.

Yes, you do need to register a new account with ShirtCity, if you have not shopped with them before. It is separate from your Forum account.

Why are you selling Ultravox.org.uk T-shirts?

As many official band sites are run by record companies, many visitors assume that this one is too. It isn't - it's run by fans.

Rob, Paul and myself (Cerise) run the official fan site in our spare time, and as before, it's just for the heck of it - we're not employed by the band or the record company, and 99% of the time we don't get paid a penny. We give pretty much all of our spare time over the the site, helping fans get in touch with the band and each other, and to creating the very best possible CDs for the band. We do everything from track selection (visiting the vaults, cataloguing every single master), research, photo selection, photo retouching, recreating the original artwork, developing it sympathetically, talking them through with the band and with EMI, attending transfer and remastering sessions at Abbey Road, you name it - every single aspect. We've had input into or have produced over 50 CDs for Ultravox, Midge Ure solo or John Foxx solo. We've created tour merchandise for both John and Midge, and run the merch desk on their tours a few times. And since we all have full-time jobs, it 's all in our spare time. We do it purely because WE LOVE THE BAND. Not just the music, but the band members themselves are very lovely people who have given graciously of their time over the years, to help us bring the best content to you.

The fanzine and website have been cited by Live Nation as one of the primary factors in making the band reunion possible (which is very flattering, though we're not sure if it's actually true or not!). There's a LOT of content to go up once the current remasters, Anthology and the reunion tour is over, and we're really looking forward to getting it all on the site.

As you'll probably know, there are various costs to running a website; hosting, bandwidth, domain renewal, software upgrades, etc etc - actually it's the bandwidth that's the killer, due to the sheer volume of traffic and the amount of large files we host. All of this we pay for ourselves, out of our own pockets - except for when someone kindly sends us a few pounds as a donation, or buys something from our shop - these sort of sales really help us to pay the site's running costs and helps keep the whole thing viable.

THe Official Voxgate is another case in point; we're taking over an entire venue for the evening, which incurs a cost. They've also asked for us to hire two of their security guys for the doors as a condition (we'll give 'em Ultravox Ts, I'm sure they'll blend in!). Then there's ticket printing, postage and a large dollop of time to sort out & arrange it all - and yet the tickets are free. We reply on you guys to show your generosity in other ways. And people do, which is fantastic - we thank each and every one of you, you're all wonderful people that help to keep this site alive, every bit as much as we do.

So you see, it's not us cashing in - it's us trying to keep the site going. The shirts have been really well received - a lot of people are proud to have been associated with Extreme Voice and the site over the last 25 years. And if you'd like to see it continue, please do consider using our Amazon links or search box, the next time you buy something there; or by sending us a couple of quid if you have it kicking around in your PayPal account one day.

Every little bit really does help.

Wondering what to wear to a Voxgate meeting on the tour? Wonder no more! We've been threatening to do this for a long time, but finally it's here - the Ultravox.org.uk T-shirt store.

You can choose from Voxgate, EV lozenge or Ultravox.org.uk designs and from a wide range of clothing and colours, such as jackets, hoodies, T-shirts, mugs etc. Sizes range from Small to 2XL depending on the item and additionally there is a range of 3XL T-shirts.

Every clothing item is customisable - meaning that you can change the shirt colours, change the logo size and position, add another logo to the other side, etc. You can even add a text backprint with your Forum and Real names on, if you wish. Arial or Impact are good fonts for this, or Black Rose for a more feminine touch.

Just click on 'Customise this Item' to see your choices - the Ultravox.org.uk logos appear under the 'My Pictures' tab, or go to the 'Text' tab to add some text to the back.

We�re very pleased to announce that the Official Extreme Voice 'Return to Eden' Voxgate will take place in Hammersmith, London on Friday 24th April 2009, from 4.30 until 7.30pm. We've booked a room that gives EV exclusive private use at a very reputable eatery and bar, located approximately 10 minutes' walk from the Hammersmith Apollo venue.

The room holds approximately 150 people, although we are expecting a large number to want to attend the Voxgate as the first London concert has attracted many people from all over the world. Due to the limited nature of the space, the event will be ticketed - you must present your ticket at the door, to be given entry on the day.

Tickets are free, and available on a first come first served basis by emailing us at voxgatehammersmith@yahoo.co.uk, with your name, postal address and the number of tickets needed (maximum of 2 per person). Full details of the venue location will be forwarded to those who are sent tickets.

Please do not use any other email addresses usually associated with contacting Extreme Voice about this event. Only mails received at voxgatehammersmith@yahoo.co.uk will be answered in respect of tickets or queries.

We can also now reveal that Davy, Mike and Don from 'Monument' have agreed to play a small intimate set at the event. Following the rapturous reception at their Oxford gig in February, it is anticipated to be a very special set performed by them and will give everyone an opportunity to see the band up close and in action.

We�re looking forward to a having a wonderful afternoon on April 24th and to seeing many of you there.

April 6th 2009 sees the release of a tour tie-in album, The Very Best of Ultravox. It's a CD+DVD package, which takes The Collection (album and video) as its basis and extends it to include not only singles and videos from U-Vox, but some special video additions also.

Please note that the physical release will contain the 'uncut' version of Vienna (with the spider, etc) and the 'uncensored' version of Visions in Blue (with the scantily clad girls), while the digital (iTunes) download will contain the 'cut' and 'censored' versions respectively.

The 2-disc Remastered Definitive Edition CDs of both Quartet and Monument are available to buy from today. As with Vienna and Rage in Eden, expanded 20-page booklets with lyrics and larger photos can be found at Ultravox.org.uk in PDF format, free to download.

MONUMENT
Ultravox's first live album was recorded over 4 nights at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1982. Originally released in 1983 as a 6-track mini album and soundtrack to the Quartet tour film, Monument has now been remastered and released as a special CD/DVD edition with additional bonus tracks, including the previously unreleased 'The Song (We Go)'.

The DVD features a remaster of the original Quartet VHS tour film and gallery of shots taken from the shows and the Quartet recording sessions! Please note, the iTunes version does not include the DVD material.

QUARTET
Ultravox's third studio album, Quartet was recorded in 1982 with legendary Beatles producer Sir George Martin. Featuring the four hit singles 'Reap The Wild Wind', 'Hymn', 'Visions In Blue' and 'We Came To Dance', Quartet is now fully remastered with a bonus disc of b-sides, rarities and previously unreleased live tracks recorded in 1982 on the Quartet tour.

PRESS UPDATE

Midge appeared in the Scotland Sunday Mail today, talking about the tour, the reissues and the Vienna song and how some of the video was filmed in Covent Garden in London.

The paper seems to have assumed that the band didn't go to Vienna at all, but some scenes were in fact filmed there, as hilariously chronicled by Paula Yates in her article Dearth in Vienna. Photographer Anton Corbijn took some fantastic images of the trip, one of which he kindly let us use on the cover of our final fanzine issue, Extreme Voice 20. In the same issue, the band talk about recording the album and filming the Vienna video; this extract can be found in our Media Archive.

The release date for the remastered Quartet and Monument albums is Monday 16th February, 2009. As we've previously stated, we have been closely involved with Ultravox and EMI in the processes of making these albums available once again, and we can now confirm the following.

As with the 2008 definitive editions of Vienna and Rage in Eden, the forthcoming re-release of Quartet will take the following format: Disc One will contain the original UK album, whilst Disc Two will include all of the B-sides and extra tracks taken from accompanying singles, plus (wherever possible) a selection of previously unreleased material.

As you all know, Monument was originally a six-track mini-album of the Hammersmith 1982 live show. This time around, an extra track was uncovered and this has been added to the audio recording. The second disc features the concert video as it was originally presented back in 1983. This is the first time that it has ever been presented on DVD.

All audio and visual material that has been previously available was remastered between November and December 2008 at Abbey Road Studios, London, with the previously unreleased material mastered for the first time specifically for these new editions. Previously available recordings were taken from the original master tapes, while the extra tracks were sourced from EMI's tape archive. Given that the recordings are now up to twenty-seven years old, the extensive work that has been undertaken has given these albums a fresher edge that has not been captured on any previous editions. We believe therefore that everyone will be thrilled with the results.

It's worth noting that some of the previously unreleased material is, by its very nature, not up to the usual fidelity of studio recordings, but it has nevertheless been mastered to the highest possible standard. As before, these tracks have been included for their 'historical significance'. We are pleased to let you know that the Monument DVD has an all-new photo gallery containing a number of informal moments caught on camera during recording of the Quartet album, rehearsals and at shows (on and off stage) during the 1982 tour, from Ultravox's personal photo collections. We believe that all the additional material helps to capture moments that would otherwise have remained unheard or unseen and further adds to the 'Definitive' nature of these releases.

Quartet and Monument will adopt similar packaging to Vienna and Rage in Eden, i.e. a protective cardboard 'O' slip case box together with an eight-page full-colour booklet. The physical release booklets will mainly contain appropriate photographs and imagery, but sadly no lyrics. However, the individual album design has remained as we always intended and in line with EMI's guidelines for digital downloading, a separate twenty-page version of the booklet will be made available that will comprise the full design, including new and updated artwork not seen in the original releases, never before seen photos AND lyrics. Ultravox were again keen that the latter be made available to as many fans as possible. A downloadable booklet will therefore be available for both albums through www.ultravox.org.uk on the day of their release, as well as through all of the other official sources.

We would really like your help to make www.ultravox.org.uk the definitive resource of Ultravox (and related) information! Do you have clippings, scrapbooks, photos, ticket stubs, reviews, web links etc etc? We're looking for anything and everything. You can either send us scans or photos of the items on disc (300dpi RGB JPEGs at original size are fine), by email to ev@ultravox.org.uk (no more than 8MB total per email please) or original photos / cuttings etc by mail.

This also applies to any NEW reports, reviews, adverts etc about the Return to Eden tour, as there is bound to be a lot in the press in the run-up to the tour. Please don't assume we've already seen it - send it in, just in case, so that we can share it with everyone!

We are happy to announce that a second date has been added to the Return to Eden tour at London's Roundhouse on April 30th, which will be filmed for a DVD release. Bring plenty of energy with you, we want lots of of yelling and cheering between songs - you've got the Monument video crowd to compete with! The venue will be seated upstairs, standing downstairs.

We can confirm that EMI will be releasing an Ultravox Greatest Hits album, which will be available as a CD/DVD package in time for the forthcoming 2009 tour. This is in addition to the Definitive Edition remasters, which will continue to be released over the course of 2009.

Ultravox.org.uk are not involved in the design process for Greatest Hits, but EMI are producing the album in consultation with the band and it looks set to be very exciting indeed.

More details to be announced once the content of both discs has been confirmed.

Following recent speculation, we are very pleased to announce the most exciting Ultravox news in over twenty years - and as Ultravox.org.uk subscribers, you're hearing it first!

Warren Cann, Chris Cross, Billy Currie and Midge Ure - all four members of the 1980s Ultravox lineup - will come together for the first time since performing at Live Aid in 1985, for a UK tour in 2009. Entitled Return to Eden, the tour will kick off on April 10th for 14 dates.

Yes, you really did just read that. Ultravox. Touring. 2009.

BILLY CURRIE NEW ALBUM 2009

Billy's as yet untitled new album will be released on April 6th 2009. He says:

I have to work on bettering the rhythm track of one of my mixes. This track came from listening to an old Schoenberg favourite of mine called "Transfigured Night". Very Dark but my track is much livelier and up.

There is another slower track I need to look at again. I took a back seat to let my co-producer Peter Dudley freely put his influence on it. He worked very well on it but I feel I need to pull it back a little to my original composition. I have also a mid tempo track which has a very pop type form. This, to me now after completing a strong mix, seems to have become a bit predictable & so I will put some Viola on to take it away to the left!

I will then be getting on with the other five tracks. One is influenced by the Ultravox Album Rage In Eden. I do still like some of the writing on that album. We Stand Alone, Death in the Afternoon to name a couple. This track has already felt the Viola effect. Another track is quite epic in its form. It has knackered me. I will work hard to get that completed. It's very demanding & has been through a metamorphosis. It still needs Violin, I think, although every time I listen to it I get the clear message that it is finished. Maybe it is. OK I will just mix it.

HERV� MORVAN POSTER AT ART FAIR

For those of you that may be interested, we are very pleased to announce that Herv� Morvan's original art Cin�monde, which inspired the original Rage in Eden album cover design, will be displayed at the Winter Fine Art & Antiques Fair, Olympia, London from 10th to 16th November 2008.

Since its sale in April 2008 (previously detailed on the EV forum), we understand the painting has undergone conservation work and is now framed.

It will be displayed by Turner Bennett on stand J22 at the event, and can also be viewed at the Turner Bennett website.

NEW CHRIS YOUTUBE CLIP - UPDATE

At around 7.30pm today a new 21-second teaser video appeared on YouTube, entitled 'Ultravox again?'. It was removed 90 minutes or so later, then replaced with a slightly longer, 25-second version that opens with Chris saying, "Are you going to reform? Just don't ask me that question, alright!".

The video shows Chris playing the bass line to Passing Strangers and is now tagged as 'Chris playing bass at home'.
